Outlaw State of Kind

Outlaw State of Kind shows what giving can look like when philanthropy is nurtured with responsibility and care. Started in 2016, and named in a way that nods to Chris Stapleton’s “Outlaw State of Mind,” the fund was designed to stay flexible, so help can move quickly when time is critical. Over the years, Chris and Morgane have built a steady track record of timely support across disasters and other community needs.

Their approach is shaped by family experience in Eastern Kentucky, which is why the fund consistently favors trusted, boots-on-the-ground organizations. Over roughly the first decade, the fund has made close to 200 grants, while still making room for other causes the Stapletons care about, including mental health, veterans’ support, and animal welfare when shelters are overwhelmed. Outlaw State of Kind is a reminder that you do not need massive infrastructure to show up. You can start with a clear intention, choose a lane you are ready to commit to, and let Music Community Foundation help you give safely, credibly, and with real follow-through.

MCF helps make that speed possible by vetting trusted partners and ensuring grants go to reputable organizations, even when the need is outside Nashville and far from home.
